Short Gameplay From God of War Ragnarok Shows Polished Combat System
The combat system in God of War Ragnarok is expected to be enhanced with quite a few innovations. The freshly published gameplay, although short, gives a good idea of what we can expect.
God of War Ragnarok will debut soon, so more materials will be coming. Recently we learned that the combat system is to be much richer in options compared to the predecessor. Today we can see a gameplay sample to prove that the clashes will indeed be more exciting.
However, this is not a 4-minute video, contrary to what we might have expected. Game Informer editors announced that they have the that much materual, but apparently want to present it in chunks.
For the time being, we can see that the developers have indeed put more emphasis on experimentation during combat - so that you can "play with your food," according to the developers' slogan. We can also see much more dynamic clashes. Kratos seems faster and more agile than in the previous game.
New is the ability to hold down or quickly press the triangle and thus launch a special attack for each weapon. Depending on whether we happen to be using the Blades of Chaos or the Leviathan axe, the attacks can be further enhanced with fire or ice magic, which translates into an increase in damage and more, as enemies can be frozen or set on fire. This will not only increase our damage output, but also add special effects, such as setting them on fire or freezing them solid.
A lot of dynamism is added by the fact that you can now use the iconic blades to grab on a ledge, enabling you to quickly get to a higher spot. There's also no shortage of new features developed with Atreus in mind, to whom we can, for example, suggest collapsing some structure on our enemies.
More materials coming soon
Game Informer editors also announced that they will soon publish another gameplay video. You will be able to watch it on September 6 (Tuesday) at 5 pm CEST at this address. This time we will be able to look at the design of the land of Svartalfheim.
The release of God of War Ragnarok is scheduled for November 9, this year. The game will be available on PS5 and PS4. It is expected to be the last installment of the Norse saga.
