Gears of War Could Receive Remaster Like Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Credible rumors have surfaced online suggesting that the Gears of War series will receive a remastered collection in the vein of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Another candidate for such a facelift could be the Fable series.
Some interesting reports have emerged suggesting that Microsoft is preparing a remastered collection of another classic series from the Xbox catalog. Two candidates are Gears of War and FableThe former seems to have more chances.
The source of the information is insider Shpeshal Nick from the XboxEra podcast. In a new episode, he revealed that one of the classic Xbox series will be refreshed in a style similar to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, meaning that we will get a collection including upgraded versions of games from the series.
Shpeshal Nick did not say when we can expect the release of the project, but predicts that the debut may take place next year. He also did not reveal the brands that are considered for the remake. It is speculated that it's either Fable or Gears of War. The second option seems more likely. This was suggested by Tom Warren of The Verge when commenting on this rumor, and he's usually very well informed on matters concerning Microsoft.
Both series are great candidates for a refresh in the vein of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. These are important brands for Microsoft, and they're still in development. We know that The Coalition is working on Gears of War 6 and Playground Games is working on the new Fable. So it would be a good idea to remind earlier installments to new users.
Additionally, it would enable PC gamers to access Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, Gears of War: Judgment and Fable II, which have never seen a PC port.
How to play Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, Gears of War: Judgment and Fable II on PC with mouse and keyboard?
PC gamers who don't want to wait for refreshed collections of Fable and Gears of War can use the xCloud streaming service as part of the most expensive Game Pass subscription offer. All installments of these series are available there, including those that have never been released on PC.
The problem arises if you don't want to play on a gamepad. Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, Gears of War: Judgment and Fable II do not natively support mouse and keyboard controls. To change this, you will need a fan-made plugin called Keyboard & Mouse for xCloud, which is available in versions for Chrome and Edge browsers. It works surprisingly well, as long as you turn off the "increase pointer precision" mouse option in Windows system settings before playing.
