Gearbox Publishing Lays Offs Due to Restructuring at Embracer Group
Gearbox is another team that has recently been hit by a wave of layoffs. This is part of the restructuring announced a few months ago by the Embracer Group.
Recently closed studio Volition (creators of Saint Row) is not the only victim of the ongoing restructuring process within the ranks of the Swedish company Embracer Group. It turns out that the changes, although not as brutal, have also affected Gearbox.
As reported by Game Developer, the corporation has said goodbye to some of the employees of the publishing team. The matter came to light after some of them published posts on Linkedin this week, in which they announced their parting with Gearbox Publishing.
"Unfortunately, no one expected it, but my contract and the contract of my colleagues who started working in June had to be terminated on the last day of our probationary month [...]. We were simply victims of the group's restructuring [...]," reads a post by one of the now former employees of Gearbox Publishing Amsterdam.
Recall that in June, Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors issued an announcement, in which he revealed that the corporation is working on changing its policy of "investing heavily" in "highly profitable business." This is most likely the result of unfavorable quotations of the corporation on the stock market.
Finally, returning to Gearbox Publishing, let us once again emphasize that this is the part of the Gearbox Entertainment Company group that operates in the publishing market. One of the first game that the company was involved in publishing was Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition by Polish studio People Can Fly. In addition, it recently published games such as Remnant II or Have a Nice Death.
For the time being, the layoffs have not affected developers at Gearbox Software.
At the time of writing this news, the company has not made any announcement on the matter.
