Game of Thrones Prequel's Major Role is Cast
We got to know the actor who will play king Viserys I Targaryen in the upcoming spin-off of Game of Thrones - House of the Dragon. The man is Paddy Considine, known for such series as The Outsider or Day Three.
Despite the disappointing final season Game of Thrones is still a very strong fantasy brand with many fans around the world. At least some of them are looking forward to House of the Dragon - HBO's new production based on George R.R. Martin's novel Fire and Blood, which is a prequel to the events shown in the Song of Ice and Fire book series and its TV adaptation. Work on the title is slowly picking up pace. A casting started in July and we already know its first fruits. As a result, British actor Paddy Considine (via Deadline) was hired for the role of King Viserys Targaryen. You can associate him with such productions as The Outsider, The Third Day, Now Is Good, Bourne's Ultimatum or Macbeth from 2015.
King Viserys I ascended to the Iron Throne 103 years after the invasion of his great ancestor, Aegon I. He succeeded Jaehaerys I, known as the Old King. Viserys was one of the good rulers. During his reign, the Seven Kingdoms, not disturbed by any major conflicts, flourished. Unfortunately, during his reign he also made some unfortunate decisions. Some of these led to a devastating civil war that went down in history as the Dance of the Dragons. These events are what House of the Dragon will focus on.
The first season of House of the Dragon will consist of ten episodes. The script for the pilot episode was written by Ryan Condal, responsible for Colony among others. Miguel Sapochnik (director of several episodes of the original Game of Thrones) and George R.R. Martin himself also take part in the works on HBO's new show. The production is to debut in 2022.
We would like to remind you that initially Game ofThrones was to be given another spin-off. It was to be called Bloodmoon and planned to focus on the distant past of Westeros, specifically the so-called Long Night - a generation-long winter that took place several thousand years before the events of Song of Ice and Fire. However, this production was eventually canceled by HBO.
