Game of Thrones Prequel Filming Begins Soon
Jason Kilar, director of WarnerMedia, commented on the emerging prequel to Game of Thrones, titled House of the Dragon, and shared a few concept arts.
If you haven't heard it yet, WarnerMedia issued a surprising statement yesterday that all the films from the studio, scheduled to go to cinemas next year will be released simultaneously on HBO Max. The same message, signed by the company's CEO, Jason Kilar, also mentions the emerging Game of Thrones prequel called House of the Dragon.
In the postscript of WarnerMedia's statement we read:
Principal photography starts on the next Game of Thrones series, House of the Dragon, in a few months. Look out for dragons overhead!
Jason Kilar also shared some concept arts:
House of the Dragon is the second planned prequel of Game of Thrones. However, the previous project, whose story was supposed to take place several thousand years before the events presented in GoT, was cancelled after the pilot was produced. Then, HBO placed an order for House of the Dragon. When asked why the second project should do better, HBO's Casey Bloys answered:
"One of the most important advantages of House of the Dragon is that we have a text, a book on which we can base the outline of the series."
House of the Dragon will be based on George R.R. Martin's novel Fire and Blood, which tells the story of House Targaryen. The emphasis on the presence of the source text is completely understandable given the painful experience of producers of Game of Thrones, when the last seasons of the series, written without any support in Martin's prose, met with huge criticism from viewers and reviewers alike.
We don't know the premiere date of House of the Dragon yet. Initially, the series was supposed to come out in 2022, but the pandemic made it significantly more difficult to implement the original plan.
