Frostpunk 2 May Break Steam Record Set by the First Part. Paid Early Access to Survival Strategy With Surprisingly Large Number of Players
Frostpunk 2 in Early Access attracted quite a few people. However, players complain about the Polish game, among other things, due to poor optimization and bugs.
The Polish strategy game Frostpunk 2 will be officially released today, but those who preordered the Deluxe edition have been able to play it for the past 2 days. Thus, we can take a look at the first reactions of players and the interest in the title from 11 bit studios.
Starting with the second issue – Frostpunk 2 really attracted many people. Over 16,000 people were simultaneously enjoying themselves at the peak of activity today (via SteamDB). This is a good result for a game in this genre, especially considering that we are specifically referring to purchasers of the pricier edition. It's also worth comparing this data with the numbers from the first part of the series: on average, 3-6 thousand people play the 2018 title on Steam, and the peak activity is 29,000 people.
Unfortunately, it seems that Frostpunk 2, at least for now, is dealing with several significant problems. Although there are players who praise the game and have fun in it - mainly due to the solutions developed to the original - a large number of them complain about annoying bugs and poor optimization.
The game's high level of difficulty is also a major downside, as it presents a significant challenge for many players, which has not been adequately adjusted by the developers from the title tests, despite their best efforts. Furthermore, fans are debating whether the content-to-price ratio of Frostpunk 2 is appropriate – some feel that the title, which costs $67.49 (the price of the Deluxe Edition since pre-orders began), offers too little content. It should be also mentioned that the price of the standard version of the game is $44.99.
Perhaps the developers will consider the players' feedback and make improvements to what bothers them the most. The reported problems are likely to be easily resolved in the first updates, particularly as the gameplay concepts are deemed captivating by fans.
Frostpunk 2 launches today on PC and PC Game Pass. At a later date, the game is also expected to be released on PS5 and XSX/S.
