Forza Motorsport's First Patch Reduces Grind, but Players Remain Frustrated

A week after its release, Forza Motorsport received its first patch. In addition to fixing a number of problems, the developers took criticism of the car tuning system to heart. Unfortunately, the bugs that remain continue to anger the players.

Although in general the new Forza Motorsport is at least a good game, the number of minor and major flaws in it can overwhelm. That's why gamers eagerly awaited the first patch - and they got it last night. The patch weighs about 750 MB on Steam and about 2.5 GB on Microsoft platforms.

The list of changes is quite long, primarily including bug fixes related to stability (read: crashes), control and accessibility settings and matchmaking, as well as minor improvements to physics (wet tire wear rate) and graphics for specific tracks or cars.

More important and interesting turns out to be the fact that Turn 10 Studios decided, just one week after the game's release, to significantly modify the controversial car customization system, i.e. drastically lowered the required levels at which parts are unlocked. Here are the most significant changes:

  1. tire type: level 11 -> 3
  2. rear spoiler: 12 -> 8
  3. bumpers, sills, hood: 15 -> 9
  4. weight reduction: 20 -> 12
  5. engine capacity: 30 -> 15
  6. engine replacement: 40 -> 25
  7. bodywork (aka bodykits): 45 -> 20
  8. drivetrain replacement: 50 -> 25

As a result, now after just one race we get access to a wide range of tuning options, and by the end of the championship we should be able to make the most radical modifications to the cars (as long as we don't give up practice sessions altogether).

Now, relatively quickly, we can start reworking the engine in all sorts of ways - as long as we have enough car points to "buy" any part we want.Source: own / Turn 10 Studios.

Unfortunately, overall the update has not been received too warmly by the community. The list of known problems still remains worryingly long, and there are reports of new shortcomings, absent before the patch was downloaded.

To make matters worse, Turn 10 has not fixed the issues that the players have been complaining about the most - the occasional bug in saving progress, which causes the game to "not remember" the last race (sometimes more than one) and crashes, for example, when trying to confirm tuning or buying a car. This is especially true for post-release races, which are unlocked weekly.

Hopefully, the developer will release another patch soon - preferably before the weekend.
