Since its 2000 debut, the Total War series has expanded to 22 games and shows no signs of slowing down, with new releases and frequent updates to their existing titles. Total War Warhammer 3, which launched in 2022, recently received fresh content with 6.0 patch. However, as is often the case with major updates, technical issues have emerged. Some players are reporting crashes, so let’s explore potential solutions.

How to fix crashes in Total War Warhammer 3 after 6.0 Update

A growing number of Total War Warhammer 3 players are experiencing unexpected crashes or freezes, both during battles and campaign mode. Some people can't even get past the initial loading screen. If you’re having the same problems, there is a fix you can try.

As with previous updates, launching the game in Windows 8 compatibility mode seems to resolve the current crashing issues. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Locate the folder where you installed the game. If you’re playing on Steam, open your “Library” right click on Total War Warhammer 3, select “Manage”, and then click on “Browse local files”.
  2. Locate the executable file (usually recognizable by the game’s icon), right-click on it, and select “Properties”. Under the “Type of file” section, it should be “.exe” at the end.
  3. Go to “Compatibility” tab, check the box “Run this program in compatibility mode for”, select “Windows 8” from the list, and click “Apply”.
  4. Launch the game from the executable file and check if this resolves the issue.
