We got the first reviews of Color Out of Space directed by Richard Stanley. According to critics, we got a quite successful adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's short story.
During the International Film Festival in Toronto, Color Out of Space, a science fiction horror film based on H.P. Lovecraft's short story, was presented for the first time. Its story focuses on the Gardner family. Near their home, a meteorite falls, which begins to cause mutations in plants, animals, and humans. The reviewers who had the opportunity to see the film issued reviews of it. They are consistent - we are dealing with a successful adaptation, but not free from defects.
According to data from Rotten Tomatoes, 75% of the 16 reviews are positive. The average rating on Metacritic is 66%. The atmosphere is one of the greatest advantages of the film. Richard Stanley gave a very good illustration of the changes taking place under the influence of the meteorite. The mutations caused by its fall are realized in a creative way.
The biggest drawback that the reviewers point out is the acting. Characters in Color Out of Space sometimes behave irrationally. The main character, Nathan Gardner, played by Nicolas Cage, is distinguished by his violent mood swings, which are at times inadequate for the situation.
