First Reviews: Immortals: Fenyx Rising - AC: Odyssey Light
Immortals: Fenyx Rising got its first reviews. Ubisoft's new IP was warmly received, although it didn't enthrall everyone.
Immortals: Fenyx Rising had no luck before the release. Ubisoft, for example, was forced to change the title to make sure it wasn't mistaken for an energy drink, and almost ever since the announcement, the label of a copycat of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild stuck to the game. It also remained in the shadow of other games, including the works of the French publisher. Now, long after the launch of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion, is Fenyx's adventure in the world of Greek myths likely to arouse more interest? Perhaps the first reviews of Immortals: Fenyx Rising that have appeared on the web, will answer this question .
Selected review scores of Immortals: Fenyx Rising:
- Windows Game Central - 4.5/5
- Eurogamer Italy - 9/10
- Gaming Trend - 90/100
- PC Invasion - 9/10
- Wccftech - 8/10
- TheSixthAxis - 8/10
- GameSpot - 7/10
- IGN - 7/10
- PCGamesN - 7/10
- PCGamer - 72/100
- CGMagazine - 3/10
Let's be clear: Immortals: Fenyx Rising is definitely not the slayer of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nevertheless, it seems, basen on the review texts, that Ubisoft's new IP has been warmly received. Apart from an extremely unfavorable review of CGMagazine, most of the critics did not go below 7/10, so the average rating of the game on Metacritic is 77/100 (PC version, 12 reviews) and 82/100 (Xbox Series X, 32 reviews).
In general, the reviewers were unanimous in pointing out the advantages of the title. The atmosphere of the game comes to the fore, captivating with carefree humor . This is manifested mainly in conversations between the gods, including Zeus and Prometheus, who lead the player through Fenyx's story. This almost comedic envelope of Immortals: Fenyx Rising doesn't mean that the heroine's adventure is just a series of gags, but it does make the game stand out with unusual charm. One reviewer went so far as to say that the positive "energy" of the game is almost contagious and it's hard not to like Ubisoft's new game. Especially since the beautiful, colorful world goes hand in hand with the narrative, and the arguments between the two narrators sometimes translate into gameplay.
Speaking of which, most of the reviewers had no major issues with the mechanics, although some were also far from expressing enthusiasm. The combat is dynamic, although - according to the general convention of Ubisoft games - based on quite simple rules, and although the variety of enemies is definitely not something to be complained about, for some it was the least interesting part of the title. More praise was given to puzzles, often based on unique ideas. It's worth adding that if we don't like this kind of activity, Ubisoft has prepared a lot of options enabling us to customize the game according to our preferences, for example, to help solve puzzles.
However, as you can see from CGMagazine's evaluation and the lack of perfect notes, Immortals: Fenyx Rising is not without its flaws. Several texts mention crashes to desktop and even individual cases of loss of progress. Nevertheless, the almost complete lack of innovation must be regarded as a more important flaw. Comparisons with Breath of the Wild appear in majority of reviews and they definitely do not help Ubisoft's title. According to some reviewers Immortals: Fenyx Rising also suffers from content overflow. This was one of the reasons the CGMagazine author complains, and in more positive reviews, critics admit that the list of activities is far too long. Not everyone was also charmed by the unique humor.
To sum up, Immortals: Fenyx Rising is not a revolution or an outstanding game, but it is still quite a successful launch of Ubisoft's new IP. If the title succeeds on the market, perhaps we will see its sequels, and they hopefully will make the whole game as charming as its atmosphere. Or maybe it can be improved already in the planned DLC? Immortals: Fenyx Rising will be coming on December 3 to PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. For the PC version, you can already check out the game's system requirements.
