First details on Steel Division: Normandy 44 single player campaigns emerge
Single player campaigns featured in Steel Division: Normandy 44 will be based on actual WWII operations, letting you command three divisions: the American 82nd Airborne Division, the German 21. Panzerdivision and the Scottish 15th Infantry Division.
Eugen Systems has shared some details on Steel Division: Normandy 44 single player campaigns in the most recent update on their website. The much-promising WWII real-time strategy will let you command battlegroups from three divisions taking part in authentic operations:
The 82nd Airborne Division, fighting its way through the Cotentin Peninsula (medium difficulty)
The 21. Panzerdivision, which could have turned the tide of the battle had it advanced against the beachhead in the first hours of the battle (hard difficulty)
The 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division, which faced terrible hardships in its advance across the Odon river and toward Hill 112 (very hard difficulty, yeah we know it sounds scary).
Each campaign will be divided into missions with varying objectives and increasing difficulty. The results of one mission will carry over to the next one, and since you have only a limited pool of units, you must be very careful not to rush things – having lost too many men in one mission, you may not be able to finish the following one. On the other hand, capturing enemy units or calling for an extra support after a major victory can make things easier later on. Missions will also have secondary objectives, which will put players up against a dilemma – should they lose some units pursuing those or focus on the primary goal? A game designer at Eugen Systems put it this way:
Achieving your current objectives is one thing, but making sure your battlegroup will be able to fight the battles to come is another. The success of an operation will require an effective support and loss management.
Steel Division: Normandy 44 is going to launch on PC on May 23, 2017. The game will also feature expansive multiplayer – you can learn more about that in this story.
