Civilization and Marvel's Midnight Suns Devs Affected by Layoffs
The developers of Marvel's Midnight Suns have decided to reduce the team. A total of 30 people have lost their jobs.
As reported by Axios, studio Firaxis Games has laid off 30 employees. Such a step is probably part of savings plan, which was announced by Take-Two - owner of Marvel's Midnight Suns and the Civilization devs.
Firaxis lays off employees
Laying off nearly 30 employees can be painful. According to information posted on Firaxis profile on LinkedIn, the company employed about 250 people, so saying goodbye to so many specialists could have a not insignificant impact on the studio's operations.
Although Midnight Suns has collected a lot of positive reviews, this did not translate into financial success. Poor sales were said to be due to setting a wrong release date for the game - at least that's what Strauss Zelnick, head of Take-Two, believes. The game featuring Marvel heroes debuted at the beginning of December last year, and just before the title appeared on the market Firaxis abandoned its release on Nintendo Switch.
Despite the reduction of the team, Firaxis is focused on the development of the seventh Civilization, announced this February.
Layoffs also at other companies in the industry
Layoffs have not evaded other game companies either. The Molasses Flood (CD Projekt), working on Project Sirius from the world of The Witcher, also laid off 30 employees, Sega-owned Relic Entertainment laid off as many as 121, and Sony Interactive Entertainment has closed one of its studios - PixelOpus, known for, among other things Concrete Genie.
