Killer Instinct 10th Anniversary; Free on Steam and With New Edition [Update]
Killer Instinct celebrates its 10th anniversary of release today. To mark the occasion, Iron Galaxy announced that the popular fighting game has switched to a free-to-play model. However, the F2P release is a shafted version.

As announced, fighting game Killer Instinct is now available to download for free on Steam. At the same time, the Definitive Edition, which has been offered so far, has been replaced by the Anniversary Edition, and existing owners have received a free upgrade to the new version. In addition, Anniversary Edition can also be found in Game Pass.

10 years - so much time has passed since the release of Killer Instinct, the third installment of the acclaimed fighting game series. Iron Galaxy decided to celebrate this event and organized a special anniversary stream, during which it announced some interesting news.
The first of these concerns the change in the game's distribution model on Steam. Soon Killer Instinct will also be available for free, just as it has been for more than 7 years in Microsoft Store.
- The free version of the fighting game offers single-player, local and ranked modes, as well as one weekly changing free character.
- It's not much, but at the same time enough to get acquainted with the game.
Those hoping for a bit more will have to reach for their wallets. Not yet available, Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition, will replace the current Definitive Edition and cost $29.99. This is not a small amount considering that we are talking about a 10-year-old game. In return, however, we will get all 29 fighters, all the premium content released so far, VIP Booster Double XP, Christmas add-ons and much more.

The developers also assured that owners of Killer Instinct Definitive Edition will receive a free upgrade to the Anniversary Edition. This applies to both consoles and the edition purchased on Microsoft Store and Steam.

The developers have not given an official launch date for Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition, but stressed that the update "is currently in the final testing phase.". The same is true of the free to play version on Steam.
