FIFA 22 Next-gen Update Won't be Free for Everyone
The standard edition of FIFA 22 on PS4 and XONE will not receive the free update on PS5 and XSX|S. If you want to enjoy the new game from EA Sports on both generations, you will have to pay extra for the Ultimate Edition or spend the money twice.
Football fans awaiting the release of FIFA 22 are in for an unpleasant surprise. It turned out that if we buy the basic edition of the game for PS4 or XONE for $59.99, we won't receive a free update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. The patch will only be available in the Ultimate Edition, which costs $99.99. Another option is to purchase the dedicated PS5 of FIFA 22, which costs $69.99.
The community is outraged because the previous installment of EA Sports' football series, FIFA 21, received the update for the new consoles for free. It is worth remembering, however, that the patch only improved graphics. FIFA 22 on PS5 and XSX|S will receive a number of improvements unavailable on other platforms.
This move on the part of Electronic Arts may seem a bit controversial - because the company is clearly trying to encourage players to buy the Ultimate Edition, the purchase of which is presented as a better option than buying FIFA 22 first on PS4 or XONE and then again on PS5 or XSX|S. It's also worth noting that the more expensive edition not only enables us to play two different versions of the game on two generations of consoles, but also gives us access to a host of digital assets that could prove to be a bargain for Ultimate Team fans in particular. What's more, if we opt for the digital version and have an active EA Play subscription, we can expect a 10% discount on Ultimate Edition.
FIFA 22 will be released on PC, PS5, PS4, XSX|S, XONE and Switch on October 1, 2021.
