Far Cry 6 Without Map Editor and Far Cry Arcade Mode
Developers at Ubisoft have announced that Far Cry 6 won't enable us to create custom maps.
- Far Cry 6 won't feature the Far Cry Arcade mode;
- We won't get a map editor either;
- But there will be some kind of activity after completing the campaign.
We have bad news for Far Cry Arcade fans. It turns out that Far Cry 6 will not feature a map editor. The information was revealed by the developers while answering fan questions during an AMA session on Reddit.
The devs explain that it wasn't an easy decision, but it was ultimately made so that the team could fully focus on the campaign. This does not mean, however, that after completing the campaign there will be no new attractions waiting for us. In an interview with JoRaptor channel, lead designer David Grivel revealed that completing the main storyline of Far Cry 6 will not be the end of the game. He didn't give any details, however. More information is expected to be revealed during E3.
Despite these assurances, it's hard not to feel disappointed. The ability to create our own maps is a tradition in the series. In the case of Far Cry we could use typical modding tools, and beginning with Far Cry 2 every main installment has given the players an easy to use editor, which even console players could use. This feature also returned later in FC3 and 4.
Until Far Cry 5 such tools were used mainly to create maps for multiplayer (co-op in the case of the fourth game). FC5 introduced a revolution in this matter by making the editor a part of Far Cry Arcade mode, enabling us to create levels to play solo, in co-op or in PvP. What's more, we weren't limited to just elements from one game. Players could let their creativity run wild by using thousands of assets both from previous installments of the series, but also from other Ubisoft titles, such as the Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs series.
Far Cry Arcade turned out to be something wonderful. Over several years, fans have created countless noteworthy maps, with more being added every day. Thanks to this mode, you can spend hundreds of hours in Far Cry 5 without getting bored. The fact that this option will not appear in Far Cry 6 is very disappointing. I hope that the devs at Ubisoft will take pity and at least make the objects and weapons from FC6 available in Far Cry Arcade, but even if they do, it's unlikely that the editor will offer the new gameplay mechanics that FC6 promises.
Far Cry 6 will be released on October 7, 2021. The title is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbos Series X/S consoles, as well as the Google Stadia streaming platform.
