Fans of Building Games Concerned About Cities: Skylines 2's Performance After Paradox's Recent Moves
Recent reports related to Cities: Skylines 2 have led gamers to fear that the game will leave much to be desired in terms of optimization.
Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive have somewhat spoiled gamers' joyful anticipation for the release of city builder Cities: Skylines II. This is because recent news suggests that the game may have an optimization problem.
Player concerns about the optimization of Cities: Skylines 2
On Reddit and other forums, gamers are expressing their concerns about the game's performance.
Some fans point out that official video footage from the developers does not show a smoothly running game, and at some points it seems that the engine generates less than 30 frames per second.
Large increase in the game's system requirements
Many gamers are also expressing concern over the recently announced increase in system requirements of the game. The changes are as follows:
Processor: | Graphics card: | |
Former Minimum requirements: | Intel i7 4790K / AMD Ryzen 5 1600X | Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 / AMD Radeon RX 470 |
Current minimum requirements: | Intel i7 6700K / Ryzen 5 2600X | Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or equivalent AMD: |
Former recommended requirements: | Intel i7-9700K / AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT |
Current recommended requirements: | Intel i5 12600K / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD's equivalent. |
As you can see, the requirements have gone up significantly. The devs explain it as follows:
"Cities: Skylines 2 is a next-generation title and the requirements reflect this. Earlier specifications were set when the game was still in development. After extensive testing on various hardware, we decided to update the minimum/recommended requirements to provide players with a better experience."
Delaying the console version
Player suspicions about poor optimization are reinforced by the fact that yesterday the decision was announced to delay the release of the console versions. They were originally scheduled to debut alongside the PC version, that is, on October 24. However, it was decided that Cities: Skylines 2 will hit the Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 only next spring.
The decision to delay the console versions was explained by the need to better polish the game in terms of quality and performance. So the game must have performed really poorly on consoles, if such a big delay was necessary. The fact that no specific new release date was given for these releases also says a lot about this.
