Fan Couldn't Wait for Proper Attack on Titan Game, so He Made His Own
An Attack on Titan fan by the handle Swammy has created an excellent free fan game called AoT Fan Game, which has been downloaded more than 10 million times.
Attack on Titan is a popular Japanese brand that was born as a manga and later adapted into an anime. It has also been made into several video games, but none of them were able to fully satisfy the fans. One of them, known as Swammy, decided to make a better one himself.
- The free game he developed, called simply AoT Fan Game, has already been downloaded more than 10 million times.
- The game is available on PC and Android, but the PC edition is at a much further stage of development. Moreover, there are no plans to further improve the mobile edition.
- The game offers FPP and TPP modes. Single or multiplayer play is possible.
- The developer is currently working on porting the game to Unreal Engine 5.
The game looks impressive for a fan production. Its engine seems more advanced than that of the official adaptation in the form of Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle, but on the other hand AoT Fan Game presents itself much less cartoonish, which may not appeal to everyone.
The reason why so many people are playing the fan game, however, is mainly the gameplay. AoT Fan Game offers a much faster and more dynamic movement system in three dimensions using so-called 3D maneuvering gear, so it more strongly resembles what we can see in the anime.
Instructions:
On PC, all you need to do is download the archive with the game and extract it to any location. Then run the game's .exe file. If the program crashes on startup, open the Epic Games Store Launcher client and update it. This will catch up the missing system files.
Install the Android release from the mobile browser after downloading the .apk file. On most phones you will get an error telling you that the app cannot be installed. In the message you will find a link to the settings, where you must check "allow from this source."
It is worth mentioning that the developer is working in parallel on a mobile game called Mecha Attack, which develops ideas from AoT Fan Game.
