Fable Dev Comments on Alleged Problems and Reassures Fans
Amie Loake, a producer working on Fable, has spoken out on rumors that Playground Games is downsizing the project due to issues with the game engine, among other things.
After the announcement of Fable from Playground Games (two years ago) we haven't received any new information from the developer. This state of affairs only fueled the rumors spread by impatient fans, claiming that the studio known from Forza Horizon may have difficulties with the work of the fourth part of the cult RPG series.
The latest speculation comes from the Xbox News Cast podcast, in which the co-host of the program, Gaz, stated that according to his sources Fable had to be scaled back due to the studio's problems with the ForzaTech engine and a lack of experience in RPG development.
After this statement, the rumor carousel began to accelerate, which prompted the game's senior producer, Amie Loake, to take the floor. She posted an information on her official Twitter account, writing that Fable is currently in the final stages of outlining the project's vision and scale and that it is normal part of the AAA development process.. She added that not defining the scope of a game in advance could lead to delays and other problems that Playground wants to avoid.
However, it is worth noting that Loake has not commented on reports that Playground Games is having trouble adapting the ForzaTech engine to the RPG genre.
So it is possible that something is up. In late March we also reported that according to former employee Juan Fernandez, work on the entirely new game could be beyond Playground team's previous experience.
No word yet on a release date for the game, but there is a chance that Fable will be presented at this year's Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase (June 12), alongside e.g. Starfield. However, if the project is still at an early stage of work, it is unfortunately unlikely that Playground Games will have anything to boast about.
Fable is being developed for PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
