RPG From Mass Effect Veterans Will Offer 'Best Possible Sci-fi Universe;' Exodus Won't Compete With Starfield
Exodus will not imitate Starfield. The new sci-fi game is intended to be an experience driven by characters and their stories.
There were several interesting announcements of upcoming games at The Game Awards 2023 gala. One of them concerned Exodus - a new sci-fi RPG from the Archetype Entertainment.
Due to the theme of interstellar travel, there were quick claims that the work of the team founded by veterans of Halo, Mass Effect and The Last of Us may be a competition to Starfield, which was released a few months ago.
The head of Archetype Entertainment, James Ohlen, responded to the matter. The developer, who has more than 20 years of work for BioWare (the studio responsible for Mass Effect) under his belt, explained in an interview for GamesRadar, that the whole team is trying to build "the best possible sci-fi universe" and not "compete with Starfield".
When asked what type of game will be Exodus, Ohlen stated that the title is to be more like items for which members of Archetype were responsible in the past.
The developer added that in Exodus we will find a vast world to explore, but it will not be the center of the story. The priority of the developers was to create an immersive story and characters that will be particularly close to the players..
"We still want to get that horizon where you feel you can get where you want to go, but at the same time we want to offer a coherent story with characters you can love or hate, and with fascinating stories," he explained.
The action in Exodus is to take place in the distant future, when humanity - forced to leave Earth - finds a home in a hostile galaxy. Players will take on the role of Travelers, who must steal the technology of the most powerful beings in the universe. The problem, however, will be the phenomenon of so-called time dilation, through which the choices we make will have unpredictable consequences that will escalate for generations to come.
Exodus is headed for PC, PS5 and XSX/S. Archetype Entertainment has not yet announced a release date for the game.
