Fall Guys Devs Acquired by Epic Games
Mediatonic, the developers of the popular Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockdown, have been acquired by Epic Games. The game is still to be sold via Steam.
Epic Games acquired Tonic Games Group, which includes studio Mediatonic, the team known for Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. Both entities assure that the transaction will not affect the development of the game. It will most likely result in cross-overs of the blockbuster with Fortnite.
Fall Guys will continue to be supported on all hardware platforms on which it came out, namely PC and PS4. The upcoming releases for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch are also expected to continue. In addition, the game will continue to be sold on Steam.
This is not the first such acquisition by Epic Games. In 2019, the company bought out the developers of Rocket League. In the case of this game, after some time the game was removed from distribution on Steam, but people who bought it there still receive all updates.
However, it is interesting to note that unlike Rocket League, which is powered by Unreal Engine 3, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout uses the Unity engine. This shows that the development plans of the head of Epic Games are becoming more ambitious and are not limited only to supporting their own solutions.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout debuted in August 2020 on PC and PS4. The game turned out to be one of the biggest hits of last year - only on Steam it sold more than 11 million copies. On PlayStation 4 the game was initially available as part of the PS Plus subscription and the project quickly became the most downloaded title in the history of this service.
Since the launch, the game is has been constantly developed. The next stage of this will be the fourth season, which received the title Fall Guys 4041 and will focus on SF themes.
