Embracer Group Working on Nearly 200 Games, Including 25 AAA Titles
Embracer Group, the parent company of companies like Deep Silver and Gearbox Software, among others, has released its financial report for the second quarter of 2021. It shows that in the last 12 months the conglomerate has acquired 37 development studios, and plans to buy 37 more in the next year.
Sweden's Embracer Group, which includes companies such as Deep Silver, 3D Realms, Gearbox Software, 4A Games, Saber Interactive, and Flying Wild Hog, "boasted" in the financial report for the second quarter of 2021 (the period from July to September) that it had acquired as many as 37 video game development studios over the past year.
This means that the group already owns 86 teams; the Swedes also have the rights to over 250 different franchises. And this is not the end of purchases, because the company plans to increase the number of internal developers by at least another 37 teams in the next twelve months. Interestingly, some of the talks are already underway; unfortunately, we don't know which companies might be involved.
In total, the company employs 7470 game developers, which is more than double the number (108 percent to be exact) compared to the same period in 2020, when 3593 people worked in the company's owned studios. So many developers under the umbrella of the Embracer Group must translate into a multitude of games being developed. And this is indeed the case - the number of launched projects is expected to reach 197. For comparison: last year, at the same time, "only" 135 games were in development (a 46% increase). 60 of them have already been announced.

Most of these are AA titles, but the company also has plans for some big games. Starting from February 2022, the Swedes intend to release 25 AAA titles. These are currently in various stages of development and, of course, will not be released side by side; their releases will be spread across four years - if all goes according to plan, the last one will launch in March 2026.
