Elden Ring Devs Extended Their Helping Hand and Pinpointed Cause of Some PC Performance Issues
The first steps in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree should be a little easier with update 1.12.2. FromSoftware studio also clarified possible smoothness drops on PC.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion received the first update. Patch 1.12.2 isn't big, but it introduces one important change, which is related to the complaints of players (via Reddit).
The DLC for Elden Ring was deemed "too challenging" shortly after its highly anticipated release a week ago. This is nothing new in FromSoftware titles, whose expansions were usually much more demanding than the already challenging base versions of the games. However, this time the complaints were much more widespread and even affected the ratings of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree on Steam.
Not all internet users agreed with this criticism, but apparently the developer decided to implement some changes. The first half of levels in the Shadow Realm Blessing will now provide a more powerful buff to the character. The same applies to the last level, although in this case the increase is supposed to be modest.
This mechanic was supposed to make even some veterans criticize the difficulty level of the DLC. This, according to some fans, made the character development in the base game irrelevant, making the initial bosses much too difficult. The update in version 1.12.2 is expected to address this without making it easier to deal with the final opponents.
In addition to this, the patch fixed a bizarre error that explains the problems with the smooth operation of the game after installing the DLC. The bug in Shadow of the Erdtreed caused the game to enable ray tracing automatically when loading saves from the previous version of Elden Ring. So if you've noticed problems with fps drops on PCs, check in the settings to see if you're not playing with active ray tracing.
It's also worth mentioning the FromSoftware entry published on Steam, in which the devs advise on how to strengthen your character in Shadow of the Erdtree. This is probably the first case when a Japanese studio directly explained the operation of some mechanics outside the game, which in itself may confirm how big problems players had with the DLC.
