EA Shared Technologies to Make Gameplay Easier for Disfunctional Players
EA has announced a patent declaration and shared five technologies for free that make gameplay easier for users with various disfunctions.
In the minds of players Electronic Arts is associated mainly with aggressive microtransactions and extracting bags of money from its users. Yesterday, however, on August 24, 2021, the corporation earned itself a truly admirable deed. The company announced a new patent declaration, thanks to which developers from around the world will be able to take advantage, for free, of several technologies developed by EA to expand gameplay options for players with various disfunctions. The company emphasizes that it cares about greater accessibility in the world of digital entertainment - games should be available for everyone.
The shared technologies include "Pinging System" known from Apex Legends, which allows for easy and intuitive communication with the team and setting objectives, without the need to use the chat. For example, a player can mark something on the map to let their team know which way they're headed. Other technologies improve colour visibility for people with colour vision impairments or generate appropriate and personalised music based on the preferences of users with hearing disfunctions.
Today's announcement is meant to encourage other developers and companies to share mechanisms to increase accessibility. In its statement, EA said that everyone - as an industry - should work together to make real change. Therefore, the company released the source code for the solutions it has developed. At the end of the statement, the corporation notes that it decided to make such a declaration as the first in the industry, while being proud of its actions in this direction. Now EA representatives hope that other companies will take part in the initiative.
