EA Dropped Star Wars: Battlefront 2, So Fans Develop Mod That Adds Dedicated Servers and Enhancements
Kyber V2, a project that will add private servers, observer mode, and automatic installation of modifications to Star Wars: Battlefront 2, among other things, is set to be released this month.
Studio DICE and Electronic Arts have long forgotten about Star Wars: Battlefront II, which is best demonstrated by the fact that the last update with new content was released in 2020. However, players have no intention of abandoning this title, and a certain group has been developing the Kyber mod for a long time, the aim of which is to ensure a solid future for this shooter. At present, the moderators are completing the long-awaited V2 version of this project. It looks impressive.
The first version of Kyber, released in 2021, was useful, but its functionality pales in comparison to what the V2 release will offer.
- The mod will enable the establishment of custom dedicated servers, running 24/7 on separate hardware (our own or rented from providers of such services). The creators of Kyber will also set up several of their own. Furthermore, there will be traditional private matches where the host's PC will act as a temporary server.
- The project aims to make it easier to use mods. The Kybera V2 client will be integrated with the NexusMods service database, allowing for instant installation of modifications and avoiding conflicts between them. Finally, it will no longer be necessary to use the inconvenient FrostyModManager set.
- If we join the fun on a server that uses mods, Kyber V2 will automatically download and install all of them.
Kyber V2 will also offer a greatly improved launcher. Login data for the EA account is needed, but once entered, the EA App will no longer be necessary to launch the game, even when playing on DICE's official servers.
The creators also promise a greatly improved server browser with many new filtering options. Apart from this feature, it is also meant to function as a community center, where a variety of events for players will be regularly organized, and important game-related information will be communicated.
Kyber V2 will also offer an extensive observer mode, allowing you to freely follow the games without taking up slots intended for the players themselves. Furthermore, the project seeks to implement enhanced moderation features. A voice chat will also be added, activated only for players who are close to each other.
The tests of Kybera V2 are set to start by mid-April. People who want to participate can still sign up on the official website. The complete mod is scheduled to be released later this month, but the creators warn that the project could be postponed if any previously unidentified issues are discovered during testing.
All of this sounds very promising. It can even be said that with Kyber V2, Star Wars: Battlefront II will finally become the title it should have been on the day of its premiere. Fan support for the game is especially crucial given that DICE hasn't only stopped development but also abandoned plans for the third installment of the series. There is a high demand for continued support - yesterday on Steam alone, SWBF2 had 1728 players simultaneously, and this is a title that debuted on the platform three years after its initial release, so many fans had already purchased it directly from EA.
