EA Sees Itself as the Largest Standalone Independent Company in the Industry

Electronic Arts will not join Activision Blizzard at Microsoft, nor will it go under the wing of another publisher. On the contrary, EA's CEO believes in the company's future as „the largest independent developer and publisher” in the world.

For some time there have been rumors that Electronic Arts could be the next top publisher to be acquired by an even bigger company. These speculations were put to rest by EA CEO Andrew Wilson in an interview with the investors (transcript posted by Seeking Alpha).

Wilson stated that the company's condition is "excellent," and that after the transition of Activision Blizzard to Microsoft, Electronic Arts will be "the largest independent developer and publisher of digital entertainment in the world." He even believes that the company could not be in a better position, and feels "very, very confident and excited" about EA's future.

Such wording shows that the corporation is by no means looking for a potential buyer. So if someone (for example Sony) was worried that Electronic Arts' games might end up in the catalog of only one console manufacturer, they can rest easy for now. Unless they are also worried about the future of another major publisher - the French company Ubisoft.
