Dust Can Make You a Millionaire in The Sims 4
At the beginning of the month, three kits - small expansions for The Sims 4 - went on sale. One of them introduces cleaning mechanics. Unfortunately, problems have appeared in addition to new gameplay features, which, among other things, allow for the accumulation of huge sums of simoleons. And all this because of dust.
In a nutshell:
- At the beginning of the month, three so-called kits were release for The Sims 4;
- One of them - Bust the Dust - introduces mechanics that affect gameplay balance;
- Sims' houses get dirty too quickly, and dust bunnies can quickly bring a ton of wealth to a family.
Earlier this month EA unveiled another type of add-on for The Sims 4, the so-called kits. These are small packs containing mainly furniture and clothing. At the time of the announcement, three such expansions went on sale - Throwback Fit, Country Kitchen and Bust the Dust. The last of these DLCs added not only new content, but also a certain mechanic that spoils the balance of the game.
Bust the Dust introduces vacuum cleaners to The Sims 4, and with them cleaning mechanics. Unfortunately, the feature doesn't work as it should, and the internet has been flooded with articles and videos pointing out the expansion's flaws. The most conspicuous shortcoming are the so-called dust bunnies that appear in the sims' homes. The game enables us to interact with them in a number of ways. Among the options we will find a request to search for valuables. If we choose this option, the family will get an item or a certain amount of money. The problem here is the lack of any restrictions when it comes to profits granted by these "pets". This causes us to receive a ton of valuable items, thanks to which we can earn many thousands of simoleons in a short time.
Another problem with this DLC is the speed at which dust accumulates in apartments. Cleaning itself takes a lot of time (especially in large houses), and the dust returns to the floors too quickly, making it difficult for the sims to maintain cleanliness and perform other daily activities at the same time. At this point it's hard to determine if this is a bug or a deliberate action by the developers. If you are interested in how it looks in practice, you can watch the video below (via James Turner).
It's worth noting here that this situation proved to be particularly frustrating for some people. A few days ago, Carl's Sim Guides, a creator specializing in materials related to The Sims 4, published a post, in which he expressed his disappointment related to the kits' condition. He also announced that a more extensive explanation will be published in a subsequent video, but so far this material has not seen the light of day.
As we can see, EA has decided to return to some extent to the policy of ignoring the opinions of players. After the warmly received Paranormal Stuff Pack we have a return to controversial decisions. In this case, it is the further monetization of The Sims 4 and the questionable quality of the product we are offered.
