Balancing a game is not an easy feat. It is not that big of a deal in singleplayer titles, yet productions where we engage with other people, especially clashing with them, are very sensitive in this matter. Add to that asymmetric gameplay in the form of different classes and it’s nearly impossible to do it properly. Let the recent example of this be the Druid from a free-to-play Dungeonborne. Is it really OP? Here we take a closer look at this class to analyze if indeed it’s as broken as the community believes.

Is Druid class OP in Dungeonborne?

The first thing that we should consider while discussing the power of Druid in Dungeonborne is the fact that the game is still actively being developed. During its Early Access period, it is more than expected that adjustments will be made. While it is still worked on, various alterations will be done to balance gameplay. This could be seen in the latest patch, which focused on Druid’s character and nerfed it… but did it really?

Without getting too much into details about what and how exactly Druid’s abilities have been changed, let’s see what has been done:

  1. The developers decided to change how Predatory Senses works. Now, instead of being permanent, it activates in specific time intervals, hindering this class’s “wallhack”, how it’s often described by fans.
  2. Druid has been slowed down both in human and panther form to make it more prone to be countered by melee classes. What is more, transformation no longer clears debuffs and one of Panther form’s attacks has increased cooldown.
  3. However, as the creators explain it, to nudge druid players to use riskier, but also rewarding, strategies, all basic attacks in panther form have been buffed. What is more, Shadow Assault skill has been made significantly more powerful, too.

All in all, can this be considered a nerf? Personally, I wouldn’t say so. It only changes slightly how the character is played, yet with increased damage, it can hardly be a hindrance. It appears that many players share this sentiment, both those who struggle against druids, but also fans playing this class themselves. They point out that it’s not fun to fight with that class and on the other hand, it’s not exciting or challenging to use it, as well.

With all of that in mind, we have to take into consideration the fact that the developers have access to more precise data, like for example how many people play this class and how often it wins in battles. Moreover, there are players on different levels and understanding of gameplay, yet the changes to classes have to account for both less and more skilled fans, which is often additionally hard. Hence the slow, deliberate changes throughout the EA period to gather ample amount of data that will allow to balance Dungeonborne as best as possible.

Since the latest patch was released not that long ago, let’s give it a chance and see how it eventually plays out. If you struggle, maybe it’s a sign that it’s time to get back to basics or try your luck in Mithril Order mode first.
