Dragon's Dogma 2 Has Major Problems With Frame Rate Drops. Players Already Found Brutal Solution
The release of Dragon's Dogma 2 tomorrow may fall short of Capcom's expectations. All because of optimization problems experienced by reviewers, among others. Interestingly, players already have a recipe for this inconvenience.
Tomorrow night, almost 12 years after the premiere of Dragon's Dogma, the second installment of the action RPG will be released. Despite the initial positive feedback from industry experts, the devs should refrain from celebrating just yet.
The debut of Dragon's Dogma 2 may be disrupted by optimization issues on PC. Many journalists who had the chance to try out Capcom's new title are reporting significant drops in frame rates, not just on weaker equipment, but also on much more powerful configurations.
Aware of the problem, the developers issued a statement, explaining that the FPS drops may be related to the large number of NPCs on the screen, which strongly affect the operation of the processor.
In Dragon's Dogma 2, a large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and dynamically calculates the impact of their physical presence in various environments. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate. We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future, announced a Capcom representative (via IGN).
Both PC and console gamers may face challenges due to optimization issues in Dragon's Dogma 2. IGN journalists experienced similar problems with review copies on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The lower-end version of Microsoft's hardware was especially affected, with texture quality starting to decline after around 10 minutes of exploring the game world.
In a recent conversation with GameInformer, the devs noted that there will be no different graphic modes on consoles. Besides, in terms of animation fluidity, developers are targeting approximately 30 frames per second.
Players' solution to optimization problems
While the developers are working on solving the issue, we may have to wait a little longer for the first results. However, more impatient players don't intend to put the production on the shelf and have already come up with an interesting, yet very brutal way to increase the number of frames per second.
Removing NPCs is supposed to help in relieving processors. Jez Corden, a journalist from Windows Central, demonstrated one of the many ways to take the lives of less important NPCs.
For now, however, it's unknown whether throwing the victim off a cliff will actually improve performance.
Dragon's Dogma 2 will be released on March 22. The game is heading to PC, PS5, and XSX/S.
