Dragon Age: The Veilguard Will Heavily Restrict Nudity and Romance. Check Out New 22-Minute Gameplay From BioWare's RPG
A new long gameplay from Dragon Age: The Veilguard hit the Internet. The developers of the upcoming RPG commented on the game's nudity, difficulty level, and the protagonist's relationship with party members.
The developers of the upcoming fourth installment of the Dragon Age series are increasingly eager to publish new materials and comment on individual game mechanics. Today, IGN's YouTube channel dropped a 20-minute video featuring new gameplay footage from The Veilguard.
New gameplay from DA: The Veilguard
The video features insights from the game's creators, namely John Epler (Creative Director) and Corinne Busche (Game Director). They talk about the world of the game and what is currently happening on the screen. You can watch the material below.
The primary objective showcased in the gameplay is to help Davrin and rescue the griffins. The protagonist, Rook, begins the quest after talking to a companion in the so-called Lighthouse - a huge base where he is stationed with his companions.
In the building, there are Eluvians, magical mirrors that fans of the series know well from the Trespasser DLC to DA: Inquisition (which is a kind of prologue to the events of The Veilguard). In the fourth installment, they serve as fast travel points between specific locations.
Thanks to the new video, we can take a closer look at how the Crossroads looks on this "other side" of the world and how this place has changed in relation to the Inquisition. Furthermore, the content showcases additional battle scenes and side quests involving independent characters, such as the Grey Wardens (revealing, for instance, the items available for purchase in their inventory).
More details about the gameplay
Epler and Busche also recently participated in a live Q&A session hosted on BioWare's Discord channel. There, they discussed many details about the plot of The Veilguard, including the behavior of individual companions, so when watching the video of this meeting, you need to be cautious about game spoilers. Below, I have listed the most interesting information provided by the devs, which should not spoil the fun for the series' fans before the game's premiere.
- In the game menu, there will be a slider available to adjust the display of "nudity." This setting will have the most impact on the romantic scenes, as the devs have focused on including the visibility of Rook's chest and intimate areas covered by underwear. We will be able to adjust this somewhat sensitive element in the character creator.
- Our companions can be hugged, but only at designated moments.
- There will be plenty of exploration and side quests in The Veilguard, but the main storyline, despite the option to make decisions, will be highly linear. The developer's words suggest that while we won't see everything during our first playthrough, our choices ultimately won't matter as much as it might seem.
- You can only romance selected party members and no other NPCs.
- When playing at higher difficulty levels, it's beneficial to have a member of each class in your team, but it won't be essential to have your own strategy and, for instance, position a specific character as a "tank."
- You can wear special items received from representatives of a given faction, even if you don't belong to it.
- The transmogrification system will allow customization of the appearance of absolutely every piece of armor.
- Just like in previous parts of the series, the protagonist can give selected companions special gifts, which will affect their relationship with them.
- Since at any moment the player can reset his or her skills, independent characters will not react in any way in dialogues to the specialization possessed by Rook.
Some of the information provided by the developers may be disturbing to those waiting for the premiere of The Veilguard – it turns out that the new RPG from BioWare studio will have many limitations. However, numerous elements will receive more extensive development compared to previous installments of the series, such as the interactions between companions who are sincerely interested in each other's issues.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released on October 31st on PS5, XSX/S, and PC.
