What is a pavise in Dark and Daker
A pavise is a giant shield. In the world of Dark and Darker, it is held with both hands and obscures most of the screen from the player. It provides exquisite protection but does not allow you to attack, making it only useful in a limited way. If utilized well, however, it can be a deadly tool. Pavise does not have to be held at all times. You can spread it out and place it in a strategic location.
Solo play with pavise in Dark and Darker; Troll exploit explained
Do not use it when playing solo - as already mentioned the pavise is two-handed. This means that the person wielding it cannot attack. If you are playing solo, there are definitely better alternative sets of weapons. However, this does not mean that it has no value in "single-player". For example, it is handy for blocking certain bosses. It can also be used to obstruct passages.

This tactic relied on being able to climb up the torch thanks to pavise and attack the enemy from a safe place with a bow. However, the latest update has improved how the Cave Troll works, and from fan reports, it is clear that this method is no longer as effective, as it used to be.
How to use pavise in Dark and Darker
The pavise is quite an effective tool if used in a team. The advantages of it are as follows:
- Blocking passages - if you deploy the pavise at the exit of a low tunnel, it will cover it. This allows you to secure the room for your team, for example when you want to collect loot or rest.
- Blocking enemies - if the character holding the pavise stands in a narrow passage, it will become a difficult barricade to force through. If there is a cleric positioned behind them and healing, the wall can hold for quite a long time. This will allow the rest of the team to prepare for a skirmish.
- Protection from arrows - there are many ranged opponents in Dark and Darker. Their projectiles can effectively be blocked by the person carrying the pavise.
- Retreat - if you end up in a place where you don't want to be, the person with the pavise is ideal for covering your retreat. This will allow you to withdraw to a more convenient position.
