Are Spencer and Alex expecting a baby in 1923? Here's what happens in season 2 of the Yellowstone prequel.
Yellowstone prequel, 1923, is back with new episodes. Season 2 was released on February 23, 2025 on Paramount+. The new episodes are expected to complete the story of the older generation of Duttons, as well as illuminate a few issues that have raised questions among viewers.
Is Alex pregnant in 1923?
In the season 1 finale, Alex and Spencer were separated. However, they promised each other that they would meet in Montana. However, The Killing Season, episode 1 of season 2, showed that Alex is facing a very long journey, as she is in England. And as it turns out, she'll have to hurry if she wants to make it in time.
Why? Alexandra Dutton is pregnant. The woman shared the news with a friend, telling her that she needs to get to Montana before her pregnancy becomes visible. And because of the troubles of her husband, Spencer, their marriage has no standing, forcing her to lead the tragic life of an unmarried, ruined woman, which, combined with her pregnancy, puts her in a very difficult position.
Alex can't count on the support of her family, who won't give her the money to travel to Montana, where she could reunite with Spencer. So the woman has to take care of herself, which she does, selling expensive jewelry with the help of her friend, so that at the end of The Killing Season she finds herself on board a ship, on her way to Spencer.
So Spencer and Alex don't have a child yet, but one is on the way, as the woman is currently pregnant.
Spencer and Alex's child may solve some Yellowstone mystery
As we know, played by Kevin Costner, John Dutton III is the son of John Dutton II, who we don't know whose son he is. He must be son of the characters of the 1923 series generation, however, the prequel has so far not clarified who Costner's character is descended from.
This will most likely be clarified by season 2 of 1923, and it is possible that the plot of Alex's pregnancy with Spencer is not irrelevant to this issue, as they may be the parents of John Dutton II. If this turned out to be true, we would finally get a more complete picture of the Dutton family tree. However, this is still not a certainty, as there are also other characters who could be John Dutton II's parents – Jack and Elizabeth.
Jack is the son of John Dutton I, Spencer's older brother, who died in season 1 of 1923. In relation to whose son Jack is, it seems more likely that he is the one who would have given his son the name John, however, Jack has no offspring as of yet, and in season 1 his wife, Elizabeth, who became pregnant, miscarried shortly afterwards.
