Discord Go Live Will Enable Us to Stream a Game to Our Friends
Discord is about to introduce a new feature. It will be Go Live, enabling us to broadcast our games directly to a group of friends. This service is similar to Share Play on PlayStation 4.
Discord, the extremely popular free application for voice calls, text messaging and multimedia files, is about to receive a new feature. This one will be addressed directly to gamers (as the whole Discord in its basic idea). The new feature is called Go Live and is a kind of compromise between live streaming and playing with friends on the couch. It allows users to stream gameplay directly to their friends who are using the Discord client. The new function is to debut on August 15, this year, i.e. in less than a week.
Go Live is intended to be an extension of the current screen sharing feature, which is possible with private voice calls. However, Go Live will require the detection of a specific game in order to be able to activate the feature. In practice, it will boil down to the fact that instead of simply sharing the screen, users will only be able to transmit the image when the game starts and only the gameplay will be visible to the viewers.
Go Live broadcasts will only be available to users who are present on the same voice channel as the host of the game. Each Go Live stream can accommodate up to 10 viewers, including the streamer itself. The service resembles Share Play, which is available on PlayStation 4. The mechanism is almost identical: we create a party, invite friends (or strangers) and share only our gameplay.
Discord Go Live can be activated and deactivated at any time via a computer application or directly during the game (using an in-game overlay). Viewers will see what we're doing in 720p resolution, but Nitro Classic users will have the ability to "boost" their streaming to 1080p (but they'll also have to accept a drop to 30 FPS). Players using Nitro can share 4K gameplay. If you want to know more about Nitro and Nitro Classic options, please visit this page.
