Discord and YouTube in One as Watch Together
In response to YouTube's actions on music bots, Discord is working on direct integration with the service. Testing of a feature called Watch Together has already begun on some servers.
- Discord is working on Watch Together, a feature that could compensate for the loss of music bots.
Not long ago, YouTube cracked down on popular music bots on Discord - Groovy and Rythm. As a result, both projects have ended their activity. The creators of Rythm say they expected this and are therefore developing another project. Discord hasn't remained passive either and is currently testing a feature that may go some way to replacing the loss of musical experiences. Watch Together integrates YouTube into the app - it will enable us to watch videos and listen to music together.
The new option is roughly supposed to resemble streaming during voice conferences, but each participant will be able to paste a link to a YouTube video, queuing it in a list. It will also be possible to control playback. This is somewhat reminiscent of the way a music bot is controlled. Unlike them, however, Watch Together can also display ads like those found on YouTube. This function is being tested on a few selected servers. If you are interested, please visit DiscordGamesLab. Watch Together should be more widely available in the next few weeks.
