Diablo Will Follow in Fallout's Footsteps and Get TV Series Adaptation? Rod Fergusson: 'It Could Work'
The Fallout series has been a success, and the CEO of the Diablo brand believes that a film adaptation of Blizzard's series could also do well on small screens. Rod Fergusson explained why.
The Fallout TV series turned out to be a very successful project of Amazon Prime Video, as evidenced by critics' reviews and ratings from viewers. The story of Lucy, Ghoul, and Maximus' adventures in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles was a perfect fit for the so-called golden era of video game adaptations. The success of Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy's show encouraged other creators to wonder whether their games would also do well on the small screen.
Rod Fergusson, CEO of the Diablo brand, was recently asked if he would be able to imagine a TV series based on Blizzard's hack'n'slash series. The dev replied that such an adaptation could work. He explained why.
Yeah, I definitely think it could work. That's one of the things I really liked about Diablo as an IP, is that it's got very relatable themes because it's The High Heavens versus The Burning Hells, and that idea of Good versus Evil. I think that's something that could translate very well to something like that [adaptation]. You know, I wish I had something I could talk to you about today. But in terms of just the general idea, do I think it could work? I definitely do.
Although Rod Fergusson is open about adapting Diablo, it should be remembered that the project isn't in development and hasn't been announced. However, it's possible that Blizzard may become interested in creating a TV series based on the popular RPG series in the future.
Let's remind that recently viewers and critics were delighted with the TV adaptation of another game - The Last of Us, for which HBO is responsible. Both the production with Pedro Pascal and Amazon's Fallout have been extended for another season, which indicates that studios have hopes for this type of adaptations.
You can watch all episodes of Fallout on Amazon Prime Video.
