Reddit user NycAlex shared his impressions of side quests in Diablo IV. According to the Internet user, the rather pleasant structure of side quests is destroyed by the ridiculously poor rewards. NycAlex's post was a prelude to a long discussion, in which fans of the game who shared their opinions about the quests.

Decent performance, abysmal rewards

The author of the post began his thoughts by stating that simply completing side quests in Diablo IV gave him a lot of pleasure and provided a nice variety in the repetitive gameplay.:

"I generally enjoy doing side quests, especially after doing mindless fortresses and dungeons," wrote NycAlex.

Many players in the comments share this positive attitude to the structure of side quests, additionally praising the continuity of certain series of activities:

"I really enjoy doing side quests. They are a pleasant break from monotony. The multi-stage ones are generally well-written closed stories. Even the short ones are important for building immersion," writes aldrclm.

The community's problems begin when the game moves on to hold the user accountable for their merits. NycAlex wrote about his disappointment and the proposed changes:

"[...] the experience and item rewards for side quests are terribly weak: give about 20 veiled crystals instead of 1-2; give more potions; give gems according to the player's level [...]; give experience according to the player's level," suggests NycAlex.

Commenters were quick to join the criticism, sharing their experiences and proposing alternative ways to solve the problem of disappointing loot.

"I agree. It's pretty bad. Screw the potions, just give me a lot of Gallowine and I can make the ones I want instead of random ones," demands JobuuRumdrinker.

"The only problem is that I only make them to break the monotony; they don't provide any significant reward in the game," points out aldrclm.

"Yes, the only side quest rewards that are worth anything are obals. Everything else is of terribly low value. Other rewards would have to be 10 times as much to be worthwhile," writes Mase123y.

"I agree, there is absolutely no reason for side quest rewards to be so bad. Maybe Blizzard thinks people might abuse side quest rewards on side characters?," asks lord_dude.

Players' positive experiences with the structure of side quests and the near-universal consensus on the low quality of rewards may be surprising and raise doubts about the goal targeted by developers from Blizzard Entertainment. Is the disparity in rewards the result of a simple oversight, or did the developers deliberately upset the balance of side quests?

Keeping in mind the service-oriented nature of Diablo IV, one can probably assume that once the issue became public we will sooner or later receive a comment from the developers. Time will probably tell whether rewards from side quests will get the "buff" expected by players.
