Diablo 4's Necromancer Got the Short Straw; Players are Furious
The ongoing Diablo 4 open beta has introduced many changes. Not all of them have been warmly received, with players mainly complaining about how weak the necromancer has become.
Yesterday we got another open beta of Diablo 4, the upcoming hack'n'slash from Blizzard Entertainment. Compared to previous tests, quite a few changes have been implemented, including in the gameplay balance. A group that is very unhappy with some of these modifications turned out to be those who play necromancers.
- In the previous beta, necromancers were far too powerful. Theoverly powerful abilities of this class (especially corpse explosion) made duels with enemies boring and predictable.
- In response to this feedback, in the latest beta, the developers heavily merfed the necromancer class. The undead summoned by the character die much faster. The damage inflicted by the explosion of corpses was also reduced.
- The nerfing of this class was necessary, but judging by the players' reactions, the devs overdid it, despite the fact that at the same time they increased some of the bonuses from the Book of the Dead.
- The game's official forum and Reddit thread dedicated to the game are filled with players complaining about how weak their necromancer has become in the new beta. Summoned undead are killed instantly and, if wanting to use them, there is too little time to do anything else.
- Instead, players praise the weakening of the corpse explosion. The criticism is mainly aimed at summoned undead, as they are currently woefully ineffective, yet using them is the main attraction of this class. Some people speculate that such a balance could have been introduced with the endgame in mind, but then it would have been a big mistake, since with such a hard start few people will get the effort to bring a necromancer to level cap.
- Fans hope that Blizzard will take their feedback into account and find the golden mean, so that in the final game the strength of the necromancer is somewhere between the first and second open beta.
Recall that release of the full version of Diablo 4 will take place on June 6, 2023. Those who pre-order the Deluxe or Ultimate edition, will start playing four days earlier - on June 2. The game will debut simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The ongoing open beta will not last long - it will end on May 14. So if you want to check out the game before the release, we advise you to hurry.
