Diablo 4 Already Became the Biggest Hit in Blizzard's 32-year History
Although Diablo IV officially debuted tonight, it has already achieved huge success. The game is the fastest-selling title in Blizzard's history.
The release of Diablo IV was certainly awaited by millions of people, after all, the game's open beta testing turned out to be the biggest event of its kind in the history of the series. Although the gates of Hell officially opened tonight, it turns out that the fourth Diablo is already a huge hit. It is the fastest-selling game in Blizzard's 32-year history.
The devs announced this success on Twitter. Unfortunately, we do not know exactly how many copies of the game have sold. However, we are certainly dealing with a multi-million dollar result. For comparison Diablo III, which debuted on PCs 11 years ago, reached 3.5 million buyers in the first 24 hours. At that moment it was the the fastest-selling PC game on in history.
As the developer announced via Business Wire, during early access (i.e. from June 2 to 6) players spent a total of 93 million hours, or 10,000 years, in Diablo IV. One person could achieve such a result by playing 24 hours a day since the beginning of civilization. By comparison - the total result obtained by participants in the aforementioned open beta is "only" 61.5 million hours.
The figures given are for copies sold before the game's release - in the period up to June 5. They are based on Blizzard's internal information and reports received from digital distribution platform partners.
Diablo IV arguably attracts not only die-hard fans of the series, who had to wait for the new installment (not counting the refreshed second part) for more than a decade. It is simply a very good game - heavily praised by reviewers - with attractive roadmap.
Recall that Diablo IV made its debut today on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The official launch was not without problems, although it turned out to be better than the beta test launches and early access for the game.
