Denuvo Wants to Kill Switch Emulation on PC; Announces Death of Piracy
Denuvo creators have taken up the fight against emulation of Nintendo Switch games on PC, obviously in the interest of earnings and positive reviews of developers' works.
Irdeto takes next step in fight against piracy. The creators of the (in)famous Denuvo are preparing a product that will prevent the use of emulators to run Nintendo Switch games on PCs.
Reinhard Blaukovitsch, president of Irdeto, spoke out about Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection. In a post on the company's official blog he stressed the advantages of emulating "old and nostalgic games" on PC.
Nevertheless, he pointed out that in the same way pirates emulate "licensed" and still available productions. That's why Irdeto recognized that game developers need a new solution:
"Your Nintendo Switch games need a protective solution. Emulating games may be harmless in some cases, but at the end of the day, it is still a major means of piracy."
The principle behind NSEP is supposed to be simple. The security feature detects differences in how an application works and how it was designed. If a discrepancy is detected, the game's operation will be blocked.
According to Irdeto, the new security will take care of developers' earnings and enable them to "preserve and expand their user base," as well as... "protect against bad reviews."
The latter probably refers to the opinions of gamers left after dealing with a console game ineptly emulated on PC. However, given the typical reactions of Internet users to the implementation of any DRM (including, or even primarily, based on Denuvo) in video games, such assurances seem to be way overconfident.
