Dead Space Remake Helmed by Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's Director
It turns out that the team creating the Dead Space remake is led by Eric Baptizat, the director of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and the lead designer of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
One of the most interesting events of last month turned out to be the announcement of the remake of Dead Space. EA Motive, the studio known for Star Wars: Squadrons and Star Wars: Battlefront II's story campaign, is working on the project. Now we have learned that the team responsible for refreshing this classic science fiction horror is led by Eric Baptizat, a veteran of the Assassin's Creed series.
The developer joined EA Motive a few months ago. Many people suspected that he is involved with the new version of Dead Space but only now he confirmed it officially on his profile on LinkedIn. Baptizat spent sixteen years at Ubisoft. He was the director for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, and before that served as lead designer on Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed: Unity, and senior designer on Assassin's Creed Origins.
Eric Baptizat is not the only Ubisoft veteran working on a remake of Dead Space. The other most important person on the team is Roman Campos-Oriola, who was the creative director of For Honor and the lead designer of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
The work also involves developers who previously worked at Visceral Games. Mike Yazijian, who was one of the artists responsible for Dead Space 2, is responsible for the graphic style of the remake. Moreover, the designer of the interface unique to the series, Dino Ignacio, acts as a consultant.
So the project can boast a strong team of developers, which bodes well for the future. However, it will be interesting to see how it fares against The Callisto Protocol, on which Glen Schofield works - he was the executive producer of the first part of Dead Space and Steve Papoutsis (he had the same role in the second and third installment) are working.
Let's remind, that the remake Dead Space is still far away - the project is at an early development stage. The game is scheduled for release on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
