Darkest Dungeon 2 Steadily Heading Towards Release With Next Big Update
Darkest Dungeon II has received its last major update as part of early access. Among other things, it introduces pets and expands the carriage travel mechanics.
The team at Red Hook Studios has released a new update for Darkest Dungeon II. This is the last major patch before the game leaves early access.
What's new in Darkest Dungeon 2
The patch, titled Redemption Road, brings a lot of new features. There are dozens of them, and I list the most important ones below.
- The mechanics for traveling around the map have been improved, strategically increasing the importance of route planning. Roads are now divided into several types with different levels of danger, and we can discover their nature with the help of reconnaissance.
- In addition, our team's carriage has received a new and better control system. It also now has expqandable wheels and armor that need to be replenished. Some encounters also provide bonuses to these items.
- Another new feature is pets. Players can choose between ten types of them, and each has effects that significantly affect the gameplay.
- The game's valley has been redesigned - it is now shorter, and the altar can be found at the beginning of the game.
- The Repulsion system has also been thoroughly revamped. More actions increase its level, and when it reaches the maximum, bosses will receive various bonuses that make it hard to defeat them.
- Mechanics related to the use of torches have been improved.
- The game's economy and item balance have been overhauled.
- The Infernal Flame system, which is designed to raise the difficulty level for strong characters, has been removed. It will return in a heavily expanded version in the game's 1.0 release.
- There is also no shortage of bug fixes.

Recall that Darkest Dungeon II debuted in early access in October 2021. The game is available exclusively on PC. Console editions are planned, but they will be released only after the release of version 1.0.
Currently, the game is sold exclusively on Epic Games Store, but the full edition, which will be released on May 8, will also hit Steam, the same day as the EGS.
