During The Triple-I Initiative 2024 indie games showcase, a major update to Darkest Dungeon 2 was announced, which will introduce a new story campaign mode called Kingdoms.

In Kingdoms we will have to defend the titular kingdoms against "monstrous threats." The issue is that we will be under time pressure. The ability to manage and expand, whether it's a defensive line or a tavern system, will be crucial for saving our lands from disaster on the road to success. Thus, Kingdoms is supposed to be a "remix" of Darkest Dungeon and Darkest Dungeon 2.

It's almost like a remix album. [For Kingdoms] We're borrowing some of the things that we felt worked really, really well in Darkest Dungeon, in terms of persistence and an overworld, as opposed to being locked into a looping run [...] -- said Red Hook co-founder Chris Bourassa.

Performing standard objectives will also be crucial, as we will embark on numerous expeditions with the main goal of repelling the invasion of terrifying enemies. When it comes to opponents, three new monster factions will be introduced to the game with the Kingdoms update, including witches from the Covenant, Beastmen, and Crimson Courtiers.

However, there's more to it as the developers have announced that, to maintain balance, alongside the debut of Kingdoms, Darkest Dungeon 2 will also introduce a smaller expansion focused on battles, bringing a new region and additional faction to the game.

Unfortunately, although we know that the update in question will be coming to Darkest Dungeon 2 at the end of the year, we don't know its exact release date.

In conclusion, I'd like to mention that Darkest Dungeon 2 is available for purchase on Steam at a discounted price, $26.79. The offer is valid until April 18th.
