Dark and Darker Without P2W, but Microtransactions Unavoidable
The latest hit from Steam, Dark and Darker, will most likely debut with microtransactions. This was suggested by one of the developers, who admitted that game sales alone are not enough to maintain the game's servers.
Dark and Darker turned out to be one of the biggest hits of Steam in recent months. The work of the Korean studio IRONMANCE, still in production at this point, thanks to numerous tests has managed to win the trust of many fans.
Despite the multitude of devoted supporters, Dark and Darker may not be able to support itself using the simple business model based solely on game sales, one developer suggested..
Microtransactions necessary, but without P2W
In a recent Q&A session on Discord, a developer from IRONMACE, going by the handle SDF, made it clear that the studio will not survive and will not take care of proper development of Dark and Darker, if it bases its business only on classic sales of digital editions of the game.
"Sales of the full version of the game alone cannot cover the ongoing costs of maintaining the servers. We need to generate revenue in a way that is acceptable to our players."
So everything points to the fact that Dark and Darker will share the fate of other online games and offer microtransactions in the full version.
This was confirmed by SDF, which, when asked about the planned monetization model for the full version of the game, answered laconically: "It will be a model that players will understand."
Fortunately, as a member of IRONMANCE reassured, in Dark and Darker "there is absolutely no room for Pay-2-Win".
Thus, it can be assumed that proven monetization methods, such as paid cosmetic items or a battle pass, which has been popular in the game industry lately, will make their way into the game.
Of course, these are just speculations. After all, as it was pointed out during the Q&A, IRONMANCE has not yet finally decided what path to take.
Developers reluctant about discounts
At the very end, it is worth mentioning the topic of the price for the full versions of Dark and Darker. Although we didn't learn any details, SDF suggested that the game won't be hitting any discounts any time soon.
"I don't like it when people who bought the game first lose out due to excessive discounts in the future."
Meanwhile, we remind you that the next tests of Dark and Darker will take place on April 14-19.
