Gamers Lose Interest in Cyberpunk 2077; Predicted Sales Below Expectations
Data analytics firm M Science predicts that Cyberpunk 2077 sales will reach around 500,000 digital copies this quarter, which is well below the average in the AAA segment.
- Analysts predict a sales slump for Cyberpunk 2077 in the coming weeks;
- Compared to other AAA games released at the end of last year, the Polish title recorded the biggest drop after launch.
Cyberpunk 2077's projected sales in the coming weeks don't look too good. Analyrics company M Science decided to prepare a report cited by TheGamer.
According to the analysts' projections, Cyberpunk 2077's sales in the coming weeks will record huge drops and end up below the average for AAA games. As explained by Corey Barrett, a senior analyst at M Science, during the research a significant drop in game's sales in digital distribution was noticed.
"We believe the company could sell-through as few as 500,000 digital units in the March quarter. This is based on the magnitude of deceleration we have observed, taking into consideration some of the commentary the company has provided on initial post-launch sales. Of course, the deceleration is in part a function of the delisting of the title from the PlayStation Store, though incremental sales appear depressed on other platforms where the title remains listed as well."
In order to show how big the drops are, the game was compared with Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War.
The graph shows a not very optimistic picture for CD Projekt RED. A month after launch, the sales of Cyberpunk 2077 amounted to 4% of what was sold on the day of its release and shortly after it. In the case of the compared titles, we can see that the decreases are smaller. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's second-month sales were 35% of what they were at launch, while Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War only lost half.
However, according to Barrett, the game's release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S could be a light at the end of the tunnel for CD Projekt RED and reverse this trend, provided the studio properly advertises the improved version for current-gen consoles.
