Cyberpunk 2077 Runs „Surprisingly Well” on PS4 and Xbox One
CD Projekt raised several issues concerning Cyberpunk 2077 during the recent investor call. The Polish developer briefly referred to the operation of the title on PS4 and XONE, the season pass and bugs.
- During the recent investor call CD Projekt answered a few questions about Cyberpunk 2077;
- It was confirmed that the game works "surprisingly well" on the basic models of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, albeit slightly worse than on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X;
- The devs ensured that the bugs - though impossible to eliminate completely in such a big game - will be few and far enough between not to be a problem for the players;
- CEO Adam Kicinski refused to give details of the multiplayer mode and potential microtransactions;
- The announcement of a season pass is not expected until after the release of Cyberpunk 2077.
The latest financial report of the CD Projekt group left no doubt about the good condition of the Polish company. Unfortunately, the document did not abound in information about Cyberpunk 2077, unless we count the summary of the game's huge advertising campaign. More details about the upcoming game appeared on the recent investor call. During the conference, representatives of CD Projekt - including CEO Adam Kicinski - raised several issues related to Cyberpunk 2077. The transcript from the conference was published by Seeking Alpha.
Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and XONE
Shortly after the last delay, there were reports that the decision to postpone the release of Cyberpunk 2077 was mainly due to the unsatisfactory state of gameplay on 8th-generation consoles. Perhaps that's why a question was raised during the call, about how the title runs on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It was confirmed that both consoles perform "slightly worse" than their stronger counterparts in the form of the PS4 Pro and XONEX, but still "surprisingly well". Unfortunately, Kicinski added nothing more, but we can assume that Cyberpunk 2077 on past-gens will be much more refined than some more "memorable" console releases.
Undetectable bugs
As far as polishing is concerned, the question about the presence of various errors had to appear. Kicinski stated bluntly that getting rid of each and every bug in such a huge game is impossible. Nevertheless, CD Projekt believes that the team has managed to reduce the number of bugs to such an extent that the players have no chance to notice them. All the "main" elements of the game have also been fixed. In short, the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 should avoid a festival of bugs known to even the most successful high-budget titles. Of course, we will have to wait for verification of these promises.
Season pass, multiplayer and monetization
Already some time ago CD Projekt RED talked about the possibility of creating a multiplayer mode with optional microtransactions. However, so far developers have been reluctant to mention the idea and the recent conference has not changed that. The developers do not want to divert attention from the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Therefore, any information on this subject may appear only at the beginning of 2021. No comment has been made on analysts' opinions on the multiplayer debuting in 2022. The devs only stated that the coronavirus epidemic had no impact on the development of CD Projekt RED's other projects, including the DLC for Cyberpunk 2077.
Little more was said about the season pass. Initially, the devs planned to announce and start selling it before the November launch date of Cyberpunk 2077. However, when the release was delayed, the decision was made to announce the season pass only after the game's debut. This will take place on December 10, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox On and Xbox Series X/S. Earlier, as confirmed by Kicinski, there will be reviews of the game, although we don't know the exact date when the review embargo will be lifted (review copies will be sent two weeks before the game is released). In the case of 9th-generation platforms, we will also receive a dedicated update on the day of release, but for a true next-gen experience we will have to wait for a second, bigger update, next year.
