CDP Explains Revamped Police in Cyberpunk 2077 2.0
With the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, the base game will see a „revamped police system” with the release of update 2.0. What exactly will change?
Cyberpunk 2077 is expecting a major update numbered 2.0, which is directly related to the game's first and only expansion Phantom Liberty. Owners of the base game on PC, PS5 or XSX/S will be able to test a number of revised mechanics in September. The biggest overhaul will come to the police system, which so far has not behaved very realistically.
Yesterday, CD Projekt shared more detailed information about the changes that will affect the police. The biggest novelty will be the "Heat" system, which evokes the mechanics present in Grand Theft Auto. The more crimes the player commits, the more stars he will "collect". At five stars (this is the maximum level) MaxTac will come into action, which will not be so easy to get rid of. There are different types of this specialized unit, and the creators compare the encounter with it to a fight with a miniboss.
"The punishment for those who don't obey the law must be severe - we can't encourage cyber-psychos to run around the city and shoot anyone they see, even in Night City. (...) The new NCPD is merciless. When they catch you, they will not accept any bribes or surrender."
If a player decides to escape, he or she can expect "engaging car chases" and roadblocks. In order to get rid of the merciless police, you will have to get out of their sight.
The developers have outlined in detail the changes to the police system and other new features coming soon to Cyberpunk 2077, on the occasion of recent broadcast dedicated to the Phantom Liberty DLC. The game's director also explained some of the mechanics in a separate interview (below).
Recall that Phantom of Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 will debut on September 26, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
