CS:GO Pro Player Numbers Dominated by Russians, Reports HLTV

HLTV, a statistics website for the professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene, collected data on the representation of each country in the TOP 30 of the best eSports teams. The most numerous nation in this group are Russians.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. HLTV has ranked the pro teams of each country by the number of pro players on the top CS:GO teams;
  2. Russians are the most numerous pro-gamers in this group, followed by Danes and Swedes.

A recent study revealed that Russia is the most numerous nation in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. A deeper dive into the stats shows that the most pro gamers in the Top 30 of the prestigious CS:GO ranking put together by HLTV come from the land of caviar, gas, and Anton Chekhov. According to these calculations, as many as 23 of the world's top players are Russian, which is 15.4%.. Denmark came in second with 18 players (12.1%), followed by Sweden with 13 players (8.7%) among the top 30 teams. Fourth and fifth place went to France and Brazil respectively.

Russia's result is not surprising given the country's population and local popularity of CS:GO. Even more impressive is the large representation of Scandinavian countries, which despite having several times smaller population have developed such a well-developed eSports ecosystem, that pro-gamers are in abundance. Among the best teams there are two teams consisting only of Danes (Heroic, Astralis) and Swedes (Dignitas, Fnatic).
