CS:GO Player Demonstrates Valve's Sluggishness

Valve hasn't been doing much to fix CS:GO lately. One Reddit user highlighted a bug that has gone unnoticed by the developers for the past year.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • One Reddit user shared a video showing a bug in CS:GO;
  • The bug affects the Train map, where smoke grenade thrown in the right way can give one side a significant advantage in visibility;
  • The bug was said to have went unnoticed for a year.

Despite being nearly 10 years old, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive remains one of the most popular online FPSs. However, the popularity of Valve's shooter hasn't been matched by regular updates. The last update in February fixed some bugs, but there's still a lot of work to be done.

An example is the bug described on Reddit by user hursav315, concerning smoke on the Train map. The bug enables you to increase your field of view after using a smoke grenade at one of the entrances to bombsite B. When thrown properly, glitched smoke textures enable you to see enemies positioned at the bottom of the "bs", while defenders see nothing.

According to the player, the so-called "one-way smoke" has been in the game for a year now and no one has addressed it since. You can see a video presenting the bug below:

The bug is over a year old. Valve, are you serious? from r/GlobalOffensive

While it may not seem like the bugged textures give that much of an advantage in vision, skilled players can easily turn this to their advantage. After all, when it comes to aiming in this game, every pixel matters.

Player comments, as you might guess, were not flattering. For years, the CS:GO community has complained about how slow the developers have been in fixing bugs. While not official, rumor has it that a small team of about a dozen people is currently working on patching the game, which seems like a ridiculously small number for a game that attracts hundreds of thousands of players every day.
