Creator of Silent Hill is Working on New Game
We already know what Keiichiro Toyama is working on with his new team. The first project from the creator of Silent Hill to be released under the banner of Bokeh Game Studio is to be a horror action adventure game.
Keiichiro Toyama, father of the Silent Hill series, has something for fans of the series. Unfortunately, it is not the next installment. At the beginning of the month, the Japanese developer revealed the establishment of Bokeh Game Studio in August, which included, apart from him, former developers from Sony Interactive Entertainment's devteams, including Jun'ya Okura (designer of Gravity Rush) and Kazunobu Sato (producer of The Last Guardian). But only now, in an interview with IGN Japan, Toyama revealed that he's working on a horror adventure game.
Why this term instead of just "survival horror"? Toyama explained that he wanted to reach a wider audience with his new project, which means it cannot be a pure horror game. Nevertheless, the title will put a lot of emphasis on horror elements. The developer assured that the game will also appeal to the fans of his previous works, inevitably referring to Silent Hill. It is only a pity that we will have to wait a long time to confirm these words. The first project of Bokeh Game Studio will be released not earlier than in 2023. The developers are still working on the prototype, and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic does not make their task any easier. As a consolation, it was assured that the project is being created under the watchful eye of a "pretty big" team, and the creators intend to share materials from behind the scenes on Twitter and Facebook.
Although the departure from "hardcore horror" may discourage some Silent Hill fans, it's still the best news for fans of the series in years. After the cancelation of Silent Hills, there were various rumors about the possible return of the series, but none of them translated into actual announcements. On the contrary, the statements and actions of Konami (the brand's owner) only seemed to confirm that so far there is no reason to expect a return to Silent Hill. Admittedly, there were relatively credible leaks about the new Silent Hill game from Sony, only that it was to be worked on by no one else but... Keiichiro Toyama (which, in the current situation, can be put between fairy tales). The only consolation was the enigmatic announcement of another adaptation by Christophe Gans, but we haven't heard about it for a long time either.
