Court Sentences Another GTA Online Cheat Tool Maker
Take-Two Interactive, the developer of Grand Theft Auto V, continues its crusade against the creators of illegal tools for the game's online mode.
Here's another case where a person responsible for selling an illegal program for GTA Online has been convicted by a court. In August, there were reports that Take-Two won a trial against the creator of Menyoo and Absolute tools. In that case, the matter ended up in banning further sales of the mods. This time the punishment is much more severe.
Jhonny Perez, author of Elusive, which allows you to e.g. generate infinite amounts of cash in the Grand Theft Auto V online mode, has to pay a financial penalty in addition to stopping the sale. The publisher of the game estimated that through Perez's illegal activity the company suffered losses of about $500 thousand. The court has issued a verdict ordering the author of Elusive to pay Take-Two $150,000 to compensate for damages and copyright infringement. In addition, he will have to pay about $70,000 of court fees.
As we can read in an official court order, the sentence is the result of an attempt to demolish the carefully-designed balance created by Rockstar Games while developing the production. It should also be mentioned that the publisher's representatives contacted Perez last year. An agreement was reached at the time, and PErez stopped selling the program and agreed to committed to donate all the money he had earned to charity. Unfortunately, no information was given on how much he managed to earn from the sale of Elusive.
Take-Two takes new paths in the fight against cheaters. The publisher is fighting on a large scale against the creators of illegal tools. In October, an unusual event occurred when an Australian court allowed a search of property belonging to two authors of the Infamous cheat. So it seems that fraudsters of the digital entertainment industry can no longer feel safe.
