Counter-Strike 2 is Currently Valve's Worst-rated Game Ever
CS 2 debuted at the end of September and has garnered so many negative reviews on Steam that it has become the worst-rated game from Valve.
Although the devs boast of the many innovations brought by Counter-Strike 2, fans have a slightly different opinion of the latest installment of the shooter. A large number of negative reviews on Steam has made CS 2 into the worst-rated Valve game ever.
The switch has upset gamers
For a long time, the owner of Steam had announced the launch of a new part of Counter-Strike. Eventually, the refreshed version debuted on September 27 as an update to Global Offensive. CS 2 "hijacked" the shooter's card on Valve's platform - along with the ratings and player base.
Such a move did not please the users, as was evident from the first ratings of the refreshed version. Since the release, CS 2 has received a lot of additional negative notes, as the chart below shows well.
- In the last 30 days CS 2 / CS:GO has received more than 163,000 ratings. Only 68% of them are positive, resulting in a "mixed" reception.
- Other Valve games - to name a few like Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Dota 2, or Day of Defeat (you can find the rest here) - have never received a "mixed" reception in reviews.
- Thus CS 2 became Valve's worst-rated title ever, receiving nearly 50,000 negative reviews (out of nearly 120,000) since its release.
Valve brings back CS:GO in "Legacy" version
Valve recently issued a announcement, in which it notes that is no longer supporting the shooter on older devices that use DirectX 9 and a 32-bit operating system. In addition, support was dropped for macOS-based devices, whose users accounted for less than 1% of active players.
To somehow compensate for this for owners of the aforementioned devices, Valve decided to release the previous installment - CS:GO - as a Legacy version. According to the description on Steam, it is a:
"Frozen version of CS:GO. It has all the features of CS:GO (CS:GO) with the exception of official matchmaking."
Unfortunately, this version will not be supported indefinitely. Valve will abandon it on January 1, 2024.. Although it will still be available after that time, quite a few features will be limited. Let's also point out that CS:GO Legacy can be found under the "Betas" tab on Steam.
